You will then receive in the mail a receipt that can be used when filling your taxes. |
| On May 6, 2000 a poker run and dance was hosted to help in raising funds for an Edgar County resident, Doug Ormiston. Doug was diagnosed with Melanoma, a form of cancer. A small group of family and friends, with the support of many local businesses raised funds to help with Doug's expenses. Doug and Candice Ormiston came up with the idea of an organization to help with the day to day expenses of Edgar County residents stricken with cancer. From this event, The D.O. it! (Doug Ormiston) Edgar County Cancer Support Group was formed. |
| The D.O. it! Edgar County Cancer Support Group is a not for
profit service organization that financially assists Edgar County, Illinois residents actively seeking treatment for cancer with day to day expenses that they incur. Our assistance is available to any Edgar County, Illinois resident that is actively seeking treatment for cancer, regardless of insurance coverage or financial status. Recipients can use these funds to help with day-to-day expenses they incur such as gasoline expense, grocery expense, pharmacy expense, just to name a few. We have a medical statement that needs to be filled out by the person willing to use our service. Once completed by their oncologist, the statement is returned to our organization, the statement is approved and the person is contacted. We then talk with them to see how our assistance can benefit them most. At present date, we are able to assist $500.00 per year, being allotted in two semi-annual installments. Many individuals think of our assistance as charity this is being given to them, but we like our assistance to be thought of as a service that is provided to them, an Edgar County resident that is actively receiving treatment for cancer. The purpose of this not for profit service organization is to supplement and provide financial assistance in day to day expenses of Edgar County residents who are actively seeking treatment for cancer. All proceeds raised by this organization are tax deductible and remain in Edgar County. This organization raises funds through events such as: raffles, benefit dances, donations, memorials and annual rides. |
